About a week ago I took my babies to our local library. We had a rough morning and decided that we were going to spend the afternoon reading and relaxing and having what we call a recharging day.
While we were at the library an older gentleman came up to us and asked if he could give my girls a gift. He said it looked like they were having a rough day and could use a smile. I was hesitant at first “never take anything from strangers” but he seemed so kind and genuine I agreed. He took out his wallet and handed each of the girls a crisp new $2.00 bill.
My girls were so excited and thanked him profusely. He stood with us for a minute telling us stories about his travels and how he always keeps a few $2 bills in his pocket for when he runs across anyone who seems to be having a rough day.
We thanked him and then went about our day, but his kindness changed my girls whole outlook on the day.
His small act of kindness made me realize that even the simple things like holding a door and saying thank you, or laughing with a stranger while you doing the awkward dance in a grocery isle can be the difference between someone having a rough day or a good one.
My girls and I are on a mission now to continue our random acts of kindness. Once a week we go to the library and when we return our books we have started leavening a dollar or two inside the pages of a few books with little notes of kindness. It’s our way of sharing the kindness that was shared with us 💕
What is you favorite way to show kindness? Has anyone ever changed your whole day with a random act of kindness?
