If your kids are like mine and love playing outside during the summer than you know the struggle of bug bites. More specifically mosquitos! The bane of our existence. I was scrolling on Tick Tock one day and came across a mother who found mustard applied to the bite helps to sooth the itching as well as reduce the swelling of bites. Interested I tried it on myself and my youngest this weekend. Between all the rain we have received as well as the traveling we met more than a few of the zippy little pests.
I applied a small amount of regular yellow mustard to the bites and rubbed it in until it was almost completely absorbed. At first it stung slightly, more an annoyance than anything, but after a moment the itching subsided!
Curious as to why it worked, I hit the internet to do some research. The vinegar in the mustard draws out the enzymes from the mosquito saliva left behined in a bite that causes the allergic itching reaction. You can apply just regular white or even apple cider vinegar but because the mustard is thicker it takes a little longer for the skin to absorb providing longer relief.
Mustard is also something that is commonly found on camping trips, barbiques and is readily available at gas stations and quick stops in small packets making it an easy on the go solution for easing mosquito bites! It is something we will be using in the future in our home for sure!
Comment below and let me know if you try it and if it works for you?
If you have any other bug bite hacks, I would love to hear about those too!!!
