If you love sending fresh fruit to school with your little ones for lunch or snack than I have a hack for you!!!
The public school system in our area is no longer providing the free hot lunches for all students that they were over the last few years to help relieve financial stress of families through the pandemic. As a result, we decided to return to our cold lunch system.
~If your baby still eats hot lunches but takes a snack this hack will work for you too!
In past years I made a concentrated effort to provide healthy fresh fruit for my babies in their lunch to help support their health, but we always had a few struggles.
My girls can be a bit picky and by the time lunch would roll around the fruit I would add would have degraded slightly and my kids would just throw away warm soft peaches and mushy berries instead of eating them. Another problem we faced is items like bananas, apples, plums exc. would bang around in their lunch box and get bruised.
Between our ever-growing grocery bill, and my children's preferences I decided to try something a little different this time around.
Instead of sending fresh fruit, I am going to implement FROZEN fruit for a couple of reasons!
- Where I am located frozen fruit tends to be cheaper.
-Over the summer every time I do grocery shopping, I can grab a small bag and put it in the freezer to stock up for the rest of the school year distributing lunch food costs over multiple checks instead of those only earned during the school year.
- Frozen fruit is easier for me to store and lasts much longer.
-The frozen fruit will also act as an additional icepack and help keep your child's colder foods chilled even longer.
-Frozen fruit is a fun treat to have in the house anyway. It's a much healthier alternative to ice cream but my kids say it's just as yummy. As my youngest daughter is also allergic to dairy this is an added bonus for us!

Trying to incorporate healthy food in a cold lunch can be a trick, especially with the cost of living rising every day. This FROZEN FRUIT hack defiantly will help our family in the long run, and I hope that it will help yours too!
